I started this museum quest because I was tired of missing important exhibits and I almost missed Frank Stella A Retrospective. Thank God for Facebook. One of my friends posted that last weekend was the “last weekend” of Frank Stella. I rushed over to the Whitney Museum of American Art on Sunday as soon as it opened. The museum was packed and I think many of the people were like me, trying to see Frank Stella before it closed. I got the audio guide ($6) which was very helpful while exploring the exhibition. Frank Stella has been creating art for almost 60 years. I will admit that I didn’t know a lot about him. I found it fascinating that Frank seemed to take risks over the years and reinvent his art again and again. I am sure that there are many people who speak “art” and can tell you all about the style changes but what I can tell you as a “lay” person is that I really enjoyed the exhibition. I loved his use of mixed media. I have always been drawn to very vibrant and colorful art. This post is going to be more about looking at the art because that’s what I enjoyed most. The Whitney space is gorgeous and I am sure that I will go there often to see many more exhibits. Admission to the Whitney was $22 for adults, $18 for seniors and students, under 18 free, and members free. The gift shop is not to be missed. I am going to end this post by giving you a chronological view of Frank’s art. This is just a small sample of his work and if you ever get the chance to see it in person, don’t miss it. Stay tuned for my next adventure….
